About Me: Tips to be a Healthier You!

Hey there! I'm so glad you've landed on my blog. To give you some context, I was overweight for 30 years, pretty much since I was a child. I used to eat fast food on a daily basis, I was an alcoholic and sedentary—pretty much the recipe to die young and miserable. And oh God, I've been on diets! I've lost 20-30kgs three times in my life already, but I always gained the weight back. ALWAYS!

I've now been at a healthy weight for around 3 years and couldn't be happier and healthier!

So what changed for me? I simply got tired of being uncomfortable everywhere, having joint pain, being afraid of breaking chairs, feeling sad all the time, not having the energy or motivation to do anything, and a huge list of other things.

I'm excited to share tips and tricks, and to explain how my mindset changed in regard to exercise (everybody hates exercising, until you don't), nutrition (everybody loves pizza and could probably eat pizza every day, but you can make healthy pizza too!), and sleep (for me, this is the foundation; without proper sleep, you won't do well in the other areas sustainably) with you, and hopefully inspire you to embark on your own journey to a healthier, happier life. My mission is to provide practical, science-backed insights that you can actually use, because I've been right where you are, navigating the ups and downs of transforming my health.

My Journey: From Struggle to Strength

For a long time, I struggled with my weight and felt stuck in a cycle of unhealthy habits. I know firsthand how challenging it can be to make sustainable changes, especially when you're bombarded with conflicting information. But through consistent effort and a commitment to understanding what truly works, I've managed to turn things around. I'm currently on my maintenance phase, focusing on nourishing my body with delicious, whole foods to maintain my weight. This isn't about quick fixes; it's about building lasting habits that support a healthy life. My journey has taught me the importance of patience, persistence, and celebrating every small victory along the way.

My Fitness Routine: Building a Stronger Me

Exercise has become an integral part of my daily life, and I genuinely look forward to my workouts! And believe me, I used to hate exercise, I always said “I freaking hate the gym, who would do that to themselves?”. Now I love it, but not the gym itself, it's how you feel after. Now I typically hit the gym 4–5 days a week, embracing a mix of strength training and cardio. I've found that this frequency allows me to challenge myself, build muscle, and improve my cardiovascular health without overtraining. My goal isn't just about burning calories; it's about feeling strong, energetic, and capable in every aspect of my life. I love exploring different types of workouts and pushing my limits, always listening to my body and adapting my routine as needed.

My Approach to Nutrition: Fueling My Body Smartly

When it comes to food, I believe in nourishing my body with wholesome, nutrient-dense ingredients. During my food relationship change, I tried to be very mindful of my food choices, prioritizing lean proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates to keep me feeling full and energized. You won't find any mushrooms on my plate (personal preference!), but you will find plenty of vibrant vegetables, fruits, and quality sources of protein. I focus on creating balanced meals that are satisfying and support my fitness goals, demonstrating that healthy eating can be both delicious and sustainable. It's about making smart choices that fuel your body for optimal performance and recovery while still being tasty!

Prioritizing Sleep: My Secret Weapon

Perhaps one of the most underrated aspects of health is sleep, although fortunately it's getting its recognition now! I've learned to prioritize it as a crucial component of my overall wellbeing. Getting adequate, quality sleep is non-negotiable for me. It's when my body recovers from intense workouts, my mind recharges, and my hormones rebalance. I strive for consistent sleep routines, creating a calming evening environment to ensure I get the restorative rest I need. I truly believe that good sleep is the foundation upon which all other health habits are built.
